Joe Zupancich resides in the scenic town
of Tower which is on the shores of
Lake Vermilion in Northeastern Minnesota.
Lake Vermilion is the
fifth largest inland lake in
MN with the most miles of shoreline (290 miles).
49,110 acres or 76+ square miles
Joe's
fascination with fish decoys, during his early years, led him to
start carving his own rigs for spearing in the mid 80's.
To date the largest pike he speared weighed in at 21 pounds.
Joe's favorite carver, Frank Mizera (1898-1969), was from Ely, MN.
Frank was
known to be an avid outdoorsmen as well as a noted guide. He also was
known
for his gracefully carved fish decoys which have been featured on the
Antiques Roadshow which undoubtedly tells you he was a king of carving
Joe
currently carves five to ten decoys a year pricing them
anywhere from $100 to $1,000. His intricately designed decoys
would truly be a treasure if you added one to your collection.
