Evan discovered his skill in
carving when he began producing musky lures in 2002. By 2003, he was
selling his lures at various sporting collectible shows.
At a show in
2005, Evan became intrigued with a
table across from his which was displaying spearing decoys. He saw one
that caught his eye and bought it.
By the end of that day he had purchased three more
and started to think he
should try to
make one.
After some compulsive research he tried his hand at making his
first decoy.
In 2007, Evan decided to
enter some of his decoys into the competition at
'The Gathering' in Perham, MN. He entered three decoys and one top water
lure.
His talent was recognized when he was awarded a blue ribbon for
each of his entries. A true achievement for a first time entrant.
Even though Evan can not use
his decoys to spear fish in Wisconsin, he
is dedicated to making top quality decoys for spear fishing as well as the
competition. Every one
of his decoys are swim tested and guaranteed not to float.
Evan is a avid Musky
Fisherman so, he continues to make some musky lures. His largest
musky caught to date was 46". This whopper was caught on one of his lures,
too!
Evan enjoys living in Waukesha,
Wisconsin with his wife and two daughters who all like
to spend time with
Evan in the boat. He is a strong believer in getting kids involved in
the
great outdoors. He has be working with his daughters teaching them to carve, also.
Evan is
proud to say that his
oldest daughter (9) took a first and a second place spot in
Best of Show
in the '2007 American
Sporting Collectibles Show' held in Maplewood, MN.
This achievement has
left his daughters, as well as Evan, excited for the next decoy show.
