NFDA MISSION AND GOALS The NFDA is dedicated to preserving the folk-art of fish decoy carving, both for winter and summer fishing. This includes the following: · Historical fish decoys and early history of winter fishing (pre 1900). · Fish decoys of the early 1900’s and the carvers of that era. · Middle of the century fish decoy carvers – their carvings and their biographies. · Modern fish decoy carvers – their carvings and biographies. The NFDA mission includes the following interests for each of the above points: · Darkhouse icefishing decoys. · Darkhouse spears. · Icefishing jigging decoys. · Icefishing jig sticks and icefishing sticks. · Collecting icefishing decoys. · Collecting handmade fishing lures and casting plugs. · Collecting all types of commercial and handmade sporting decoys. (Ducks, shorebirds, owls, crows and others.) Communication with our members is maintained via our web-site and through our newsletter, “The Northern News.” It is the goal of the NFDA to: · Provide educational opportunities for carvers, both new and experienced. · Provide educational opportunities to children on carving decoys and the sport of dark house spearing. · Secure partnerships with other organizations to maintain and expand the integrity of the NFDA and the sport of dark house spearing. · Make a comprehensive directory of existing websites related to our mission. · Do research on the above topics and create new web-pages reviewing that research. · Develop and maintain an “Evaluation of Fish Decoy Prices” on the NFDA website. · Increase opportunities for decoy makers and collectors. · Develop the NFDA website to eventually be available in two varieties – one for members and one for non-members. |
